The United States believes Iran should come to the negotiating table with Washington as American officials are serious about Tehran and the latter does not have many options, US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said on Monday.
“The president is serious, Marco Rubio is serious. They're going to have to come to the negotiating table for a deal,” she told Fox News Channel.
According to Bruce, Tehran does not have many options at the moment and the Islamic Republic authorities must respond to the “fact” that the world they are familiar with has changed. She also recalled the threat by US President Donald Trump to use the military route towards Iran.
“The president sent a notice saying either you will have to negotiate with us, make a deal, or military forces will be used,” she added.
Earlier on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran would not enter direct talks with the US due to daily accusations and unacceptable demands from Washington, but “the path of indirect negotiations is open.”
