Baku condemned the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on March 13 by a majority vote, in which MEPs demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku, including representatives of the former military-political leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh.
The European Parliament also stressed that the trials against Armenians are trumped-up and humiliating.
The Milli Mejlis sent a letter of protest to the European Parliament. The Azerbaijani side called the resolution unfounded and biased, claiming that it “violates the principles of sovereignty, the rule of law and justice.”
The Milli Mejlis also called the accusations against Azerbaijan for the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and ethnic cleansing unfounded. In response, Azerbaijan accused the European Parliament of interfering in the country's internal affairs, noting that Baku is committed to the regional peace agenda.
