President of the European Council António Costa congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on finalizing the text of the peace treaty.
In a statement published on X, Costa called on the sides to swiftly sign the agreement.
“Sincere congratulations to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on the finalisation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty text.
A decisive step towards the full normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the opening of the region.
I now encourage you to move forward with a swift signature of the peace agreement. The EU stands ready to support all further steps toward lasting peace and security in the South Caucasus,” the President of the European Council said on X.
Marta Kos, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, also welcomed the development.Commissioner Kos lauded the finalization as an important step for regional security which allows to strengthen cooperation within the framework of Eastern partnership.
