Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Narek Mkrtchyan is participating in the sixty-ninth session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) in New York.
Mkrtchyan delivered a speech at the ministerial segment of the session, the ministry of labor and social affairs said in a press release.
The Armenian minister presented the government’s policy on gender equality, women and girls’ empowerment, and in this context emphasized the role of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for strengthening national mechanisms and achieving the Sustainable Development goals.
“Ensuring gender equality in all areas of public-political life is one of the fundamental components of our agenda,” he said.
“During the past five years we’ve created various legislative mechanisms and policy tools to ensure coordinated integration of gender prospects in developing administration and policy.”
Speaking about the implemented work the minister highlighted the importance of the activities of the Women’s Affairs Council, the regional gender policy commissions, municipal-level women’s and youth consultative bodies and other agencies.He emphasized that Armenia remains committed to the work envisaged in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action by implementing necessary steps for ensuring gender equality, sustainable development and inclusive governance.
