Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan has met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O'Flaherty during a visit to Strasbourg.
The discussion focused on human rights, including overcoming the atmosphere of discrimination, hate speech and intolerance, and the work in the direction of protecting human rights in prisons, Manasyan’s office said in a readout.
Matters pertaining to the importance of a safe environment to guarantee the activities of human rights advocates and ombudspersons were discussed.
Manasyan spoke about the problematic nature in terms of human rights of the processes taking place against the arbitrarily detained ethnic Armenians in Azerbaijan.
Manasyan underscored the importance of cooperation between civil society organizations and the ombudsperson’s institution.Expansion of cooperation in advancing and protecting human rights was discussed, among other issues.
