Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday (February 9) that there is no point to discuss what U.S. President Donald Trump has said about a plan to take over the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, Reuters reports.
"The proposals put forward by the new American administration regarding Gaza with the pressure of the Zionist lobby have nothing worth considering or discussing," Erdogan said in a news conference.
"No one has the strength to remove the people of Gaza from their forever and eternal homeland."
A longtime New York property developer, Trump drew rebukes on Wednesday (February 5) from world powers Russia, China and Germany, which said the plan would foster "new suffering and new hatred."
Regional heavyweight Saudi Arabia rejected the proposal outright.
Barely two weeks in the job, Trump shattered decades of U.S. policy on Tuesday (February 4) with a vaguely worded announcement saying he envisioned building a resort where international communities could live in harmony after nearly 16 months of Israeli bombardment devastated the coastal enclave and killed more than 47,000 people, according to Palestinian tallies.
