Membership in the EAEU provides serious economic advantages for Armenia and other members, Yerevan also announces this, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated during the weekly briefing.
According to her, this topic was also discussed during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan to Moscow on January 21. Zakharova emphasized that since 2015, exports from Armenia to the EAEU countries have increased more than 10 times. She noted that trade with Russia, according to preliminary data for 2024, has reached $ 12 billion. According to the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, these are “fairly obtained incomes”, and not aid.
“As for the course of membership in the European Union, I would like to note that in that case all these advantages will be lost. If you are not a member of this union, you do not have access to the corresponding advantages,” Zakharova said.
According to her, it is Armenia’s sovereign right. Russia is only presenting the situation honestly. Zakharova noted that even in the medium term, Yerevan cannot replace trade with the EAEU countries with alternatives.
