During the discussion of the draft law on the start of Armenia’s accession process to the EU in the Parliament, Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan reported that all issues were discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov during Foreign Minister Mirzoyan’s visit to Moscow.
“It was specifically noted that all issues were discussed in a constructive atmosphere. There was no question left around which an atmosphere of mutual understanding had not developed,” Hovhannisyan noted in response to the question of Armen Gevorgyan, Deputy from the ‘Armenia’ (‘Hayastan’) faction, whether there was an opportunity to discuss the statements of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk regarding Armenia’s accession to the EU through official channels.
Touching upon the question of whether the Russian side fully understood Armenia’s initiative to start the EU accession process, and whether the geopolitical risks of the project are being considered, the Deputy Foreign Minister noted that such discussions are of a permanent nature.
“All circumstances have been discussed and are being discussed. As was the case with Russia, we are conducting such a dialogue with all our most important partners. During the Foreign Minister’s visit to Moscow, the Deputy Foreign Minister was in Tehran to discuss all the issues on our agenda, too.
We have the same dynamics with China and India. I cannot provide you with more detailed information at this time. However, I assure you that diversification, a balanced policy remains the main direction of our policy. Our initiatives and activity in all directions are trying to ensure our national interests and create more favorable conditions,” he said.
