Russian-Armenian relations are going through a difficult period, and this is largely a consequence of the West’s actions, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in response to media questions.
The Մinistry expressed regret that Armenia often responded positively to the West’s promises, noting that “the CSTO is the cornerstone of Armenia’s security, and membership in the EAEU is the guarantee of the country’s economic prosperity.”
“We have repeatedly shown our Armenian friends that neither Washington nor Brussels really care about the fate and interests of their partners,” the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
In addition, the forecast of the American Stratfor analytical center is cited that after the change of the US administration, Washington will not have much interest in Armenia.
“Moscow has always cherished and continues to cherish fraternal relations with Yerevan. We consider the Republic one of our natural strategic partners and allies. We are committed to the entire complex of agreements reached with Armenia in the trade, economic and military-political spheres, which are formulated at the bilateral level and within the framework of general integration associations. Moreover, Russia does not have a hidden agenda or “projects”, the implementation of which would have a destructive impact on the security or economic well-being of Armenia,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
The department also highly appreciated the results of Armenia’s presidency in the EAEU bodies in 2024. It was also emphasized that Eurasian integration and membership in the European Union are incompatible.
