Russia claimed to have stricken Ukrainian military targets including energy facilities and military airport infrastructure, while Ukraine stated that it had attacked targets on Russian territory including an oil depot and an aircraft manufacturing plant, according to the latest briefings of the two sides on Tuesday, Reuters reports.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a battle report Tuesday that in the past day its forces had taken one settlement and stricken Ukrainian targets such as energy facilities of military-industrial enterprises, military airport infrastructure, and drone assembly and storage facilities.
The Russian army continued to launch strikes against the Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of Russia, said the report.
On the same day, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that the Ukrainian forces engaged in dozens of battles with Russian forces on the front line as of Tuesday afternoon.
The Ukrainian army attacked an oil depot in Voronezh Oblast, Russia, and infrastructure such as an aircraft manufacturing plant in Smolensk Oblast. In addition, the Ukrainian army repelled multiple Russian attacks in Kharkov, Pokrovsk and other directions.
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country is open to dialogue with the new U.S. administration over the Ukraine crisis.
"The most important thing is to eliminate the root causes of the crisis," Putin said. During a meeting with members of the country's Security Council, Putin reiterated that a potential resolution of the Ukraine crisis should not involve a temporary truce to regroup forces for further conflict but "long-term peace" based on respect for the legitimate interests of all countries in the region, according to a statement from the Kremlin.
The Russian leader stressed that Moscow has never rejected dialogue and has always been open to cooperation with any U.S. administration.
