The inauguration ceremony of the newly elected US President Donald Trump will take place today, and the topic of the guests has become the subject of heated discussions in the international press.
No European head of state or government has ever attended the inauguration of an American president since 1874. Traditionally, the day is considered a domestic event for Americans, and foreign countries are usually represented by their ambassadors.
This year, Donald Trump made an exception and personally invited several far-right politicians from the EU and other countries, including President of Argentina, Javier Millay, President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, and President of China, Xi Jinping, however, he will be replaced by Vice President Han Zheng. By the way, one of Trump's closest allies in Europe, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, has not been invited.
It is expected that 200 thousand people will participate in the ceremony to be held in Washington.
The inauguration of US presidents consists of several formal stages, from a service at St. John's Church in Lafayette Square, Washington, to three inaugural balls across the city, at which the president-elect is expected to speak.
On the main stage of the event, in the US Capitol, first there will be a musical performance, then the swearing in of Donald Trump and newly elected Vice President JD Vance after which the 47th President of the United States will deliver his inaugural address.
