The comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed between Iran and Russia provides for the strengthening of cooperation in the field of security and defense.
The third article of the document states that if one side is subjected to aggression, the other side should not provide any assistance to the aggressor.
Russia and Iran also agreed on special services cooperation to "strengthen national security and counter common threats" of both countries.
The parties also agreed to contribute to the strengthening of peace and security in the South Caucasus, the Caspian region, Central Asia, and the Middle East. It is also noted that Moscow and Tehran should cooperate in order to "prevent the intervention of third countries and their destabilizing presence there."
