After the 44-day war, a rather serious process of reforms of the armed forces began. What we have today is a step forward and it is the process. It is too early to assess the results of our reforms, and it is not me who should give that assessment, said Suren Papikyan, Armenia's Defense Minister, during the press conference summing up the works of 2024.
"I share the approach of Armenia's Prime Minister that it is not necessary to artificially not only sanctify, but also to put such a share of responsibility on the Armed Forces, which the Armed Forces, first of all, the conscripts, cannot bear on their shoulders.
It's not that we're slandering the Armed Foreces, or we are trying to belittle their merit in some way. Not at all. The point is that we treat the Armed Forces with respect, with responsibility, and we want the responsibility to be balanced.
We understand that security is not only the soldier standing at the border. Security must be economic, foreign political, and this must be balanced," said the Minister, adding that the attitude towards the armed forces is proven by the allocated budget, salary increase, and social allocations.
