Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at the Palazzo Chigi in Rome on Thursday (January 9), Reuters reports.
According to a press release from the Italian government, Meloni "expressed solidarity with the victims of the recent Russian bombings and reiterated the all-round support that Italy ensures and will continue to provide to the legitimate defence of Ukraine and to the Ukrainian people."
A Russian guided bomb attack on Wednesday (January 8) killed at least 13 people and injured 113 in Ukraine's southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, authorities said.
The blast left bodies strewn across a road alongside injured residents. Public transport was also damaged in the strike.
Earlier on Thursday, Zelenskiy attended a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group chaired by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at the Ramstein air base in Germany.
