One of the important components of the process of normalizing Armenia-Azerbaijan relations is the unblocking of transport infrastructure. The Crossroads of Peace project, presented by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the annual final press conference, is aimed at this. In response to the question of 'Lurer' about the recent threatening statements of the Azerbaijani President to Armenia, Mirzoyan pointed to the aforementioned document, stating that with it Armenia wants to be a bridge, not an obstacle between countries.
"We are pursuing the lifting of the blockade of transport infrastructure not because any country demands it, but because we are interested in this lifting, and as for other countries to use the territory of Armenia for their transit transportation, Armenia will also use the territory of other countries. As for the specific statement, I want to say that Armenia does not want, nor is it beneficial, to be a barrier, we live in the 21st century, where all possible countries want to have trade, to have movement with other countries, this stems from the vital interests of states.
We are also interested and want to be not an obstacle, but a bridge, we want to be not a wedge, but a connecting link. This applies not only to countries that are geographically close, but also to countries that are far away, a metaphorical connecting link through diplomatic services. For us, both that term and the concept that is put under the term are unacceptable. If that concept does not exist, if the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia with all its components is fully respected, as well as that of other countries, then we are not only not against, but we are also interested in the further exploitation of transport routes," said Mirzoyan.
