Azerbaijan is acquiring offensive weapons, Armenia is also acquiring weapons in a much more modest quantity, in a much more modest amount, in financial terms, and acquiring weapons is the sovereign right of all of us. Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this during a press conference summing up the work of 2024, responding to the question of whether the Azerbaijani side has been acquiring offensive weapons recently, what work is Armenia's Foreign Ministry doing with the countries that sell offensive weapons to the Azerbaijani side.
“This does not mean that we have any specific concerns. Or even if we have any concerns, we recognize the territorial integrity of all our neighbors, and we expect our neighbors to recognize our territorial integrity.
We have announced our lack of intention to take military action against any neighboring countries, we expect our neighbors to demonstrate such behavior towards us.
At the same time, we are reforming our army, and that one component of the reforms is our acquisition of weapons," he said.
Referring to the Azerbaijani side's acquisition of offensive weapons in the context of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Mirzoyan noted: "Of course, we have those concerns. We have seen on the ground many times that these weapons are used against Armenia and in violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. That is why we have also proposed to Azerbaijan to create a joint mechanism for arms control.
Again, like many other constructive proposals from the Armenian side, this proposal has remained unanswered to this day," the Minister said.
