We know that Armenia had enclaves in Azerbaijan, we know that there were Azerbaijani, it is customary to say enclaves in the territory of Armenia. These issues are political realities. Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said this during a press conference summarizing the work of 2024, addressing the question of what the Armenian side's position will be if Azerbaijan next makes a proposal to continue delimitation in the enclave-exclaves sector.
Mirzoyan believes that there is a legal side to the issue, and that the commissions should be given time to deal with this issue as well.
"I do not think that the two countries are ready to discuss this issue at the moment, but again they leave the issue to the commissions.
The method and the geographical location, from where there is a mutual perception of continuing the work, are a little different and less risky," the Minister said, not yet revealing where exactly the work will continue from, then added: "You ask about the enclaves, I say there is no such agreement. Quite the opposite, there is a general perception that all issues, including this one, should be discussed at a later stage, keeping in mind different perspectives.”
To the question of whether it is possible to continue the delimitation work from the occupied territories of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan replied: “At this stage, in the interests of the delimitation process and in the interests of gradual stabilization, I would continue the delimitation from a place that is less likely to cause or exacerbate potential conflicts. But this is for the delimitation commissions to decide.”
