Reuters. U.S envoy Amos Hochstein voiced optimism on Monday (January 6) regarding the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
Hochstein, who met with Lebanese caretaker prime minister Najib Mikati following his meeting with the parliament speaker Nabih Berri, reiterated his country's commitment to the implementation of this agreement and to supporting the Lebanese army in that mission.
The U.S. envoy said that he went to Naqoura in southern Lebanon earlier on Monday, to chair the meeting of the ceasefire implementation mechanism with Major General Jasper Jeffers and to ensure that the enforcement, the monitoring and the verification of the ceasefire is going smoothly.
Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a U.S.-brokered 60-day ceasefire that calls for a phased Israeli military pullout after more than a year of war, in keeping with a 2006 U.N. Security Council resolution that ended their last major conflict.
