French President Emmanuel Macron addressed French ambassadors in Paris on Monday (January 6), a traditional conference where France's diplomacy is set out by the president of France for the year to come.
Macron spoke about Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Ukraine.
On Ukraine, Macron called on incoming President Donald Trump to help in securing peace talks with Russia and Ukraine.
"On this, let us have no illusions, and I think it is becoming increasingly clear to everyone, there will be no quick and easy solution in Ukraine. The new American president (Donald Trump) himself knows that the United States has no chance of winning anything if Ukraine loses, and I will say it very simply, in a few lines.
No solution should be found in Ukraine without the Ukrainians. No solution should be found for security in Europe without the Europeans. No quick solution that would mean the capitulation of Ukraine can be good for the Europeans and the Americans. And basically, the United States of America have to help us change the nature of the situation and convince Russia to come to the negotiating table. The Ukrainians have to bring realistic discussions on territorial issues and only they can lead them," Macron said.
Macron said Iran's nuclear program was approaching the point of no return, adding that France would need to have a strategic discussion regarding Iran with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration.
Macron said that leaders would need to ask themselves if they should launch a sanctions restoration mechanism on Iran before October 2025.
