Washington considers any increase in the risk of a nuclear conflict between Western countries and Russia extremely dangerous, said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in an interview with the Financial Times.
According to him, Joe Biden's administration was very concerned about Moscow's nuclear rhetoric, believing that Russian President Vladimir Putin might be considering the possibility of using nuclear weapons.
The FT's article does not specify the specific time period, but earlier the director of the US CIA, William Burns, said that in the fall of 2022 there was a real threat of possible use of tactical nuclear weapons by Russia.
In the interview, Blinken also noted that Beijing's policies may have helped reduce the threat of nuclear weapons being used in the conflict in Ukraine.
