Protests Resume on Rustaveli Avenue. For over a month, protesters have been gathering daily on Rustaveli Avenue.
Due to the demonstrations, vehicular traffic on Rustaveli Avenue remains restricted.
Today, students, alumni, and lecturers from BTU (Business and Technology University) joined the protests with a march from Vake Park.
Earlier in the day, protesters gathered near the Orbeliani Palace, where they listened to an address by Salome Zurabishvili, the fifth President of Georgia.
After Zurabishvili left the Orbeliani Palace, the protesters moved to Rustaveli Avenue to oppose the inauguration of Mikheil Kavelashvili as President of Georgia, declared by the Electoral College.
Following Kavelashvili’s oath of office and the departure of police forces from April 9th and Chichinadze streets, several protesters were detained near Qashveti Church. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, all six detained individuals were later released upon signing written agreements.
