The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, announced that he ordered the republic's airlines to suspend flights to 10 cities of the Russian Federation for an indefinite period, based on security considerations.
"We have also suspended the flights of Russian airlines from 3 Russian cities to Azerbaijan. So, our air communication with 10 cities is currently suspended, and I say again, security issues are in the foreground," Aliyev said in an interview with AzTV.
Earlier we reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The presidents discussed the issues related to the crash of the passenger plane of the Azerbaijani airline near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, on December 25.
Putin apologized to Aliyev that the incident involving the Azerbaijani plane took place in Russian airspace.
