On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov revealed that Ahmed al-Sharaa, the newly appointed leader of Syria, characterized relations with Russia as 'long-standing and strategic.' Lavrov affirmed that Moscow concurs with this perspective.
"The head of the new authorities in Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, recently gave an interview to the BBC, where he called the relations between our countries long-standing and strategic.We share this approach. We really have a lot in common with our Syrian friends," Lavrov said.
The Russian Foreign Minister expressed support for Turkey's concerns regarding the situation along its border with Syria, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining the country's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and unity.
