On December 18, at the invitation of the Head of the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Secretariat Chengetai Masango the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan took part in the UN Internet Governance Forum 2024 in Riyadh (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
During the panel discussion “Powerful collective force for change: Parliamentarians for a prosperous global digital future’ dedicated to the parliamentary part of the event, the NA Vice President presented the policy adopted by Armenia, the legislative favorable conditions in the internet governance and high technologies, inviting his colleagues to cooperate.
Hakob Arshakyan underscored that the global digital cooperation more important in an interconnected world, where digital technologies have become an integral part of almost all aspects of life. International cooperation between parliaments is also of primary importance, as the impact of digitalization, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence transcends national borders, becoming a global challenge, affecting both human rights and democracy, as well as the digital sovereignty of states.
At the same time, the NA Vice President drew the attention of the attendees to the Crossroads of Peace initiative of the RA Government, aimed at unblocking regional infrastructures and promoting regional connectivity, also highlighting the role of the development of the internet channel network from this perspective.
Parliamentarians from Argentina, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Namibia, and Pakistan attended the discussion as speakers.
Within the framework of the Forum work the NA Vice President met with the Head of the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Secretariat Chengetai Masango and the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Internet Society and Internet Society Foundation Sally Wentworth.
The interlocutors exchanged ideas on further deepening the cooperation with the Internet Governance Council, as well as the opportunities of organizing international events in Armenia.
Meetings were held also with the representatives of the parliament of the host country, as well as other partner circles participating in the event.
