Media reports about Turkey's plans to establish a Turkish military base in Azerbaijan are political speculations, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in an interview for the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company and Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency.
He called the information about the plans to set up a Turkish military base in Azerbaijan "information tricks" because, according to him, today it is almost impossible to hide any military base anywhere in the world.
There is a point in the Declaration on alliance relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey about the allied relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, and this point implies mutual military assistance in case of threat and aggression, Aliyev recalled.
"The obligation of Azerbaijan and Turkey is to come to each other's aid if one or the other country faces an external threat, external aggression. Therefore, this point does not, in fact, make the creation of permanent military infrastructures in this area unnecessary," the Azerbaijani President said.
Aliyev stated that during the more than 30 years of military cooperation between the two countries, Turkey and its military structures have played a major role in the modernization of the Azerbaijani army and bringing its combat readiness to high standards, planning operations, analyzing the situation, and the potential of military intelligence.
The President of Azerbaijan emphasized that thanks to Ankara, Baku has reached a "high degree of operativeness of military operations."
