Armenian weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan clinched gold in the super heavyweight category at the World Championships in Bahrain, winning his first world champion’s title.
Lalayan, 25, won a small gold medal in the snatch and a small bronze medal in the clean and jerk.
Varazdat Lalayan of Armenia became a champion, by lifting a combined weight of 467 kg, in the men's +109kg competition at the 2024 IWF World Weightlifting Championships that concluded in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.
The Paris Olympics silver medalist and two-time world silver medalist lifted 215 kg in the Snatch and 252 kg in the Clean and Jerk.
Gor Minasyan, the Armenian Olympic silver medalist who now represents Bahrain, finished fourth, with a combined weight of 455 kg (210+245).
