The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states that do not fulfill their obligations to fund the organization may be deprived of the right to vote. Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated this at Wednesday’s press briefing.
According to her, the grounds for such measures can be the debt unpaid for two years.
"This approach is similar to the practice of the United Nations," Zakharova added.
She noted that the funding of the CSTO is mandatory for all participating countries, and this organization's budget is formed through installment payments.
"Russia covers half of the CSTO budget, and the other participants 10 percent each. No form of refusal or delay of payments is envisioned. The amount not transferred for the current year constitutes a debt," said the Russian Foreign Ministry's Spokesperson.
According to Zakharova, in case of a two-year debt, the participating country may be deprived of the right to vote in the CSTO.
