Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke about the situation in Syria in an interview with one of the Iranian TV channels. Araghchi stated that it was known from the beginning that such an operation would take place, and the Syrian army and Government were also informed.
"It was natural that these operations would continue after Gaza. What was surprising was the incompetence of the Syrian army against them. Bashar Assad himself was surprised and dissatisfied with the behavior of his own army," Araghchi said.
Iran's Foreign Minister emphasized that Russia's being busy in Ukraine and Iran's confrontation with Israel played a role in choosing the time of the Syrian operation, but the main factor in the success of that operation was the Syrian army, which did not resist, while the resistance forces, despite being busy on other fronts, played their role.
The Minister noted that Iran's future policy depends on what Government will be formed in Syria and what position it will adopt towards the Shiites of Iran and Syria.
