Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday (November 7) that he and the foreign ministers of Turkey and Iran had agreed in a meeting in Doha that there had to be an immediate end to "hostilities" in Syria, Reuters reports.
Lavrov said that Moscow would oppose Syrian insurgents Hayat Tahrir al-Sham by all means possible, Russian state news agency RIA reported.
"It's inadmissible to allow the terrorist group to take control of the lands in violation of agreements which exist, starting with the U.N. Security Council Resolution 2254, which strongly reiterated sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of the Syrian Arab Republic, which condemned any attempts by terrorists to disturb the life of Syrians and which called for direct dialogue between the government and the opposition. And the opposition groups were listed in that resolution," Lavrov said.
Asked how the situation in Syria would develop and what would happen to Russian military bases there, Lavrov said he was "not in the business of guessing."
