Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his wife Anna Hakobyan visited the town of Spitak after paying tribute to the victims of the devastating earthquake of December 7, 1988 in Vanadzor.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, the Prime Minister’s wife and other officials laid flowers at the monument commemorating the victims of the earthquake in Spitak.
36 years ago on this day, at 11:41, the earthquake took the lives of 25,000 people, and more than half a million people became homeless.
As a result of the earthquake, about 40% of Armenia’s industrial potential was destroyed. The city of Spitak and 58 villages were completely destroyed, as well as the cities of Gyumri, Stepanavan, Vanadzor, and more than 300 settlements.
