Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with Päivi Kaukoranta, President of the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court (ICC), to discuss Armenia’s cooperation with the ICC and the country’s ongoing judicial reforms, Armenian Foreign ministry reports.
Minister Mirzoyan reaffirmed Armenia’s strong support for the ICC’s independence, highlighting the importance of impartiality in ensuring justice based solely on facts and law, free from political influence. He stressed Armenia’s commitment to continued cooperation with the ICC and emphasized the principle of non-interference in its work.
The meeting also focused on the ongoing review of the Rome Statute, with Armenia expressing its intention to actively engage in discussions on the crime of aggression and other issues.
Minister Mirzoyan further underscored that, despite the challenges, Armenia has made significant strides in its judicial reforms, aimed at strengthening the rule of law and establishing a fair, impartial legal system. He emphasized that these efforts reflect Armenia’s unwavering commitment to upholding international legal standards.
