Today's statement on Georgia's withdrawal from the agenda of EU accession negotiations until 2028 does not correspond to the country's strategic interests, the current employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia spread the statement on the social network. The statement is signed by 45 employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IPN reports.
According to the announcement, their main duty as diplomats is to protect the national interests of Georgia and to be loyal to the Constitution.
"Over the years, Georgian diplomacy has made full efforts to join the European and Euro-Atlantic structures of Georgia, which is the will and historical choice of the Georgian people.
Today's statement on Georgia's withdrawal from the agenda of EU accession negotiations until 2028 does not correspond to the country's strategic interests.
The wave of expansion of the European Union, which represents an unprecedented historical opportunity for Georgia to return to the European family, is due to international political events. Unilateral refusal of this opportunity by the country will lead to negative strategic consequences. In addition, it is possible that similar favorable circumstances for joining the European and Euro-Atlantic structures will no longer be created.
In addition, the stalling of the accession negotiation process will lead to the isolation of the country. Without the support of the Western partners, Georgia remains face to face with threats that are especially intensified in the background of the ongoing processes in the international and security environment.
We believe that removing the opening of EU accession negotiations until 2028 from the political agenda contradicts the requirements of Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia.
We remain committed to the course of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia," the statement said.
