The first session of the 11th convocation of the Georgian Parliament is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. At the same time, an opposition rally supporters demanding new elections is taking place in Tbilisi. In the morning, both the number of protesters and the number of law enforcement officers increase. Clashes between protesters and the police regularly take place, the media reports.
Four opposition parties, which have also entered the Parliament, are boycotting the work because they consider the last election rigged.
Yesterday, the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, who will also not participate in the session and lost her chance to be elected for a second term under the Government of Georgian Dream, said that "the session of the Parliament of Georgia is unconstitutional."
According to the law, the first session of the Parliament is convened and opened by the President, this is the first case when the session was not convened by the President. According to the regulations, in the absence of the President, the oldest deputy starts the session. This time, the representative of the ruling Georgian Dream Lado Kakhadze will lead it until the election of the Speaker of the Parliament.
The Parliament can start work if the majority is present - 76 deputies, and Georgian Dream has 89 mandates.
