A Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 operated by the Azimuth airline caught fire as the plane landed at Antalya Airport on Sunday. No injuries have been reported.
TASS has compiled the key facts about the situation. The aircraft with identification number RA-89085 was making Flight A45051 from Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi to Antalya. An engine caught fire as the jet landed. The fire was quickly extinguished. All 89 passengers and a six-member crew were evacuated from the aircraft by inflatable ramps.
Access to the runway where the Superjet 100 landed is closed. The airport is not receiving inbound flights until 03:00 a.m. local time (12:00 a.m. GMT). Departures have been rerouted to a military runway. The passengers of the flight have been safely taken to the air terminal building, and a return flight is currently being prepared.
The airplane landed in bad weather. The aircraft made a rough landing because of wind shear, the airline explained. The plane hit the runway hard which might have caused the fire, an aviation source told TASS.
