Canada is a founding member of the International Criminal Court (ICC). In this regard, the country will comply with all of its decisions, states Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly.
"Canada is a founding member of the ICC. Canada has always believed not only that international law is important, but international law needs to all parties at all times. And at the same time, in order to do so, we need accountability in the world. And so based on that, Canada will abide by its obligation under the ICC," said the head of Canada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Joly also added that the situation in Gaza is catastrophic. Too many children and women have been killed. Moreover, she emphasized that hostages must be released.
"And that's why we need a ceasefire, and that's been Canada's position for a long long time," the minister concluded.
On Thursday, November 21, the International Criminal Court (ICC) rejected Israel's appeals regarding the court's jurisdiction over the situation in Palestine and issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
On the same day, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stated that EU countries are obligated to execute the ICC's arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He emphasized that this decision is not merely political.
