Beirut's southern suburbs were pounded with heavy blasts on Saturday (November 23) morning as Israel pressed its offensive against the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, Reuters reports.
The blasts come after Israeli forces pounded southern Lebanon and the outskirts of the capital on Friday (November 22), killing at least five medics, as ground troops clashed with Hezbollah fighters in the south.
Separately, a powerful airstrike killed at least four people in central Beirut in the early hours of Saturday, marking the fourth Israeli strike this week targeting a central area of the city, in contrast to the bulk of Israel's attacks that have targeted the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs.
Israel has pushed on with its intense military campaign against the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah, tempering hopes that efforts by a U.S. envoy will lead to an imminent ceasefire.
