Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Arpine Sargsyan, delivered a speech at the event titled “Expanding the Armenia-EU Partnership”, dedicated to the seventh anniversary of the signing of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Vassilis Maragos, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Armenia, diplomatic representatives from the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the National Assembly, the EU Delegation to Armenia, and EU member states.
Welcoming the participants, Minister Sargsyan congratulated them on the seventh anniversary of the signing of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.
She highlighted the work carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs within the framework of the agreement and outlined key achievements.
Arpine Sargsyan emphasized the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a significant step toward strengthening democratic principles, noting that parliamentary oversight is exercised over the three structures subordinate to the Ministry. This oversight ensures accountability to the representative body elected by the people.
The Minister also discussed achievements in police sector reforms carried out with EU assistance.
Speaking about the ministry's work on capacity development and digitalization with EU support, Sargsyan underscored that these reforms aim to enhance public trust, ensure a safer public environment, and strengthen state institutions.
Minister Sargsyan also addressed the initiation of negotiations with the European Union on the liberalization of entry permits and visas, which "will give new momentum into and open new opportunities for Armenia-EU cooperation".
