In her first speech at the 29th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) being held in Azerbaijan, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, made a sharp criticism of the host country, reports DW.
The situation of human rights in Azerbaijan is worrying, the German politician said in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. She noted that the arrest of Azerbaijani activists working in the media and of opposition members is very worrying.
Also, Baerbock considered the ban on entry of 76 Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) members to Azerbaijan absolutely unacceptable. This also affects the German MPs of the Bundestag and is incompatible with the commitments undertaken by Azerbaijan in the Council of Europe, the German FM noted. She emphasized the importance of this climate change conference, also addressing the human rights situation.
