Cuba is a friendly country for us. The Armenians settled in Cuba at the beginning of the 20th century, and we are informed that we have a small, organized and active community in Latin America: The Head of the RA NA Armenia-Cuba Friendship Group Garnik Danielyan said to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Armenia Leon Santana Oscar.
The meeting took place on November 18, in which the members of the Friendship Group Tatevik Gasparyan, Lilit Stepanyan, Mariam Poghosyan, Kristine Poghosyan, Hakob Aslanyan, Davit Aslanyan, Davit Karapetyan and Arman Ghazaryan participated.
The Head of the Friendship Group expressed conviction that the first meeting in this format will become a partnership, promoting the strengthening of the Armenian-Cuban relations.
“It is a great honour for me to represent Cuba in Armenia as a friendly country,” the Ambassador said, thanking the hosts for warm words and reception, adding that Cuba is ready to deepen the interaction with Armenia in all possible spheres. As Leon Santana Oscar observed, the peoples of the two countries haven many commonalities and expressed conviction that by this meeting the steps taken for strengthening and cooperation of the relations between the two countries will begin.
The members of the Friendship Group underscored that in a number of spheres there is unrealized great potential and forthcoming joint work to be done should be aimed at the activation of cooperation. It was noted that joint steps should be undertaken for expanding the collaboration in the trade-economic, health, scientific-educational and cultural, tourism spheres.
The necessity to activate contacts and cooperation between Friendship Groups and the namesake Committees formed in the parliaments of the two countries was stressed, which, according to the interlocutors’ conviction, will really promote the expansion of interaction.
