Armenia's Chiarman of the Supreme Judicial Council Karen Andreasyan announced his resignation.
Andreasyan refrained from revealing details, noting that any further comments will give way to various comments and false hypotheses.
“Instead, let me say immodestly that I have brought the judicial system out of a shameful crisis. The people inside know this for sure and will probably accept it (except for a few and their relatives, whom I have hurt for the sake of surgical treatment of the system), he said.
“I have also laid dozens of institutional foundations, which, if not destroyed, will benefit all people entering the court in a year or two,” he added.
Andreasyan expressed gratitude to all the honest and professional judges and judicial officers in the system.
“I am grateful to the legislative and executive branches, headed by the Prime Minister, as well as the former and current members of the Supreme Judicial Council, for supporting our crisis management and, of course, for entrusting me with this very difficult but important position,” he noted.
“I am leaving without scandal, bitterness and disappointment and having endured this toxic position the longest. I sincerely believe in the vision of tomorrow to have a fair court in a strong Armenia. I will continue to support that greatest dream in various capacities,” he concluded.
The announcement comes hours after media reports on the dismissal of a number of government officials.
