Delegation from Yerevan State University (YSU) led by Dr. Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, YSU President, held a series of meetings with U.S. government officials this week in Washington, D.C. The meetings, focused on fostering academic cooperation and exploring new opportunities for bilateral educational exchange, were held with representatives from USAID and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Dr. Hovhannisyan, Ambassador Makunts, as well as delegation members including Elina Asriyan (YSU Vice-President for Academic Affairs), Karlen Khachatryan (Dean of the YSU Faculty of Economics and Management), and Armen Chobanyan (Izmirlian Foundation Armenia Country Director), first met with USAID Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator Mark Hannafin. The discussion centered around strengthening educational and research collaboration between Armenia and the United States that align with the goals of both countries.
At the U.S. Department of State, the delegation met with key officials from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, including with Barrett Haga, Senior Advisor, as well as officials from Fulbright Europe Branch. This meeting was dedicated to exploring opportunities for Armenian students and scholars to participate in prominent U.S.-based programs such as Fulbright, BridgeUSA, and other educational exchange programs. The discussion also highlighted areas of mutual interest, including expanding the scope of academic partnerships and collaborative research between YSU and U.S. institutions.
Dr. Hovhannisyan emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in higher education, noting that such exchanges will benefit the academic communities of both nations.
Ambassador Makunts reiterated the role of educational exchange programs as an effective tool for fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the two countries.
