After the US Congress approved $60 billion in aid to Ukraine in April 2024, the United States has delivered 83% of the promised ammunition and 67% of the air defense funds to Kyiv, US Department of Defense spokesperson Patrick Ryder says, RBC Ukraine reports.
“Since the supplemental, we've drawn down nearly $3.7 billion in equipment from DOD stocks across 12 PDA drawdowns that were announced between late April through mid-October,” he said.
According to him, when the Pentagon withdraws equipment that is immediately available from the stockpile, it is shipped within days or weeks.
“Between the passage of the supplemental and the middle of last month, we've delivered to Ukraine, 83 percent of the critical munitions that we've committed from stock, including a 155 millimeter artillery rounds, GMLRs, Patriot, NASAMS, missiles and more,” Ryder said.
The Pentagon spokesperson reported that 67% of other critical air defense commitments, including Stinger and Hawk missiles, and 60% of firepower, including small diameter bombs and 105mm ammunition, have been fulfilled.
“We've delivered hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds, thousands of armored vehicles, thousands of munitions for HIMARS and antitank weapons, dozens of artillery systems, significant air defense capabilities including a Patriot battery, hundreds of interceptors and dozens of other systems,” he said.
In terms of funding, the Pentagon has a total of $7.1 billion in PDA. Another $2.2 billion is available under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) program, Ryder said.
“We are going to continue to rush aid and use the funds that we have to ensure that Ukraine gets what it needs in order to deter and fight against Russian aggression,” Ryder added.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the United States will send Ukraine more than 500 interceptor missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems. These supplies should cover Ukraine's air defense needs by the end of this year.
