German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed his intention to have a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but stated that he does not intend to do so without agreeing with his colleagues.
"Yes, I am going to talk to the President of the Russian Federation at an opportune moment, but I will not do it unilaterally. It implies many contacts, negotiations with many people, which I haven't had for a long time," he said in an interview with ARD television channel.
To the question when that telephone conversation can take place, Sholz answered: "In the near future."
