The Polish military should not shoot down missiles over Ukraine, Minister of National Defense of the Republic Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh said on the radio station RadioZet.
Earlier, the American newspaper Hill reported that members of the US House of Representatives sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking him to allow NATO ally Poland to expand its air defense to the skies of Ukraine in order to shoot down Russian missiles over its territory.
On the air of the radio station RadioZet, the minister was asked: "Should Poland shoot down missiles over Ukraine? Yes or no?"
"No," replied Kosinyak-Kamysh.
Official Kiev had previously called on Western countries to shoot down missiles over Ukraine from their territory. National Security Adviser to the American president Jake Sullivan noted that Ukraine itself should be responsible for the work of air defense and protection of the sky, not counting on the involvement of forces of third countries.
Moscow will give a concrete and adequate response if Poland "succumbs to an adventurous impulse" and tries to intercept Russian missiles over Ukraine, Oleg Tyapkin, director of the third European department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told RIA Novosti earlier. Russian diplomacy has repeatedly pointed out the risks posed by "the potential direct participation of Western states in hostilities on the side of the Kiev regime," he stressed.
