Compared to the previous year, we have a 6.7 percent decrease in the number of tourists, but most of the decrease is from tourists coming from Russia. Instead, the flow of tourists from India, European countries, the USA, Iran, Georgia, UAE has increased. Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said this during the discussion of the 2025 state budget draft.
"In other words, tourist flows from most countries of the world to Armenia have increased, while Russia has decreased, but since last year Russia was 50 percent of our tourist flow, naturally, this decrease had a greater impact than the increase of others.
The Russian tourist flow is 43 percent of our total tourist flow, which is good from the point of view of diversification, because it is one thing when you depend on one country for 50 percent, it is another thing when you depend on one country for 40 percent. But diversification is not that the flows from the Russian Federation decrease, diversification is when Iran, Georgia, France, the USA, Germany, China, Japan grow faster and gain a larger share, because those markets are still for us. They have great opportunities, while the Russian market is quite open for us," he said.
