We are not indifferent to what is happening on our borders, at the same time we do not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, unlike Western countries, we respect the sovereign will of the people of Georgia. We expect stable development of that Caucasian republic, further regulation of bilateral relations. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced this during the briefing, commenting on the results of the parliamentary elections held in Georgia.
"Georgia and the people of Georgia decided to limit the possibility of external influence on the internal affairs of their own independent and sovereign country by adopting the 'Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence.' For several months, Washington and Brussels did everything to influence the choice of Georgian voters and did so in an absolutely biased manner.
Despite enormous pressures, the people of Georgia made their choice. On October 26, the voters voted in favor of stability, development and traditional Georgian values," said the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Zakharova noted that Georgia's closest neighbors in the region, as well as a number of Western countries, have already congratulated the ruling 'Georgian Dream' on its convincing victory. According to her, such biased structures as the OSCE/ODIHR confirmed that the elections in Georgia were well organized and conducted in a competitive environment and with high voter turnout.
"The USA and the Baltic countries are not at all satisfied with that result. They present new ultimatums to the leadership of Georgia and the Georgian political environment, threaten further prosecutions and sanctions if Tbilisi maintains its current sovereign course, try to question the legitimacy of the election and provoke another color revolution in Georgia," said Zakharova.
