Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili addressed people outside the Parliament protesting the parliamentary election outcome: “You did not lose the election. They stole your vote and attempted to steal your future, but no one has that right,” Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.
The President vowed to stand with demonstrators “until the end, on the European path,” and called for a thorough investigation with international support.
“Our monitoring organizations, NGOs, and political parties are actively documenting irregularities.
Combined with citizen evidence, we need to build a complete picture of what appears to be an unprecedented, systematic operation to steal votes,” Zourabichvili stated.
“This is just the first stage,” she continued, indicating that political parties would soon outline their next steps.
The president urged the protesters: “Now is not the time for pessimism. It’s time to defend your votes purposefully and peacefully.”
