Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met in Kazan within the framework of BRICS summit.
During the protocol part of the discussions, Putin spoke about the development of relations between the two countries. He recalled his recent meeting with his Iranian counterpart in the capital of Turkmenistan.
The Russian President also discussed his country's cooperation with Iran in Syria and the South Caucasus.
Putin thanked the Iranian President for deciding to make a separate visit to Russia to sign the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement and "other important documents."
He noted that Russia and Iran’s approaches to the global agenda are similar or completely aligned.
According to Putin, the task of the Russian Federation and Iran is to strengthen the positive dynamics of trade and economic cooperation.
"In general, I would like to emphasize that the approaches of Russia and Iran to the global agenda are close or fully coincide. We are united by the desire to form a fair multipolar world order, to comply with international norms, to preserve the central role of the UN," the Russian president said.
Putin asked to pass along his greetings and best wishes to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"We very much appreciate his attentive and constructive attitude to the development of Russian-Iranian ties," Putin said.
