What do we mean by saying “the 1975 map?” These are the maps of the USSR General Staff, which were drawn up in 1974-78 and entered into force in 1979; but those maps are not the only maps that should be used, or I think will be used in the border delimitation process. Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan told this to reporters at the National Assembly of Armenia Monday and referring to the remark that there is no agreed map on border delimitation with Azerbaijan, although previously Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan had announced that the 1975 map was acceptable for Armenia.
Grigoryan assured that there is still no agreement on which border section should be delimited next. According to him, this matter was not discussed.
"The agreement during the joint activity [of the Armenian and Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions] was that at this phase we will carry out the internal procedures of the regulation [of the activities of these commissions], after accepting it we will exchange notifications, after which we will meet and discuss the issue of future sections," said Grigoryan.
As for when this meeting will take place, he noted that this process still needs to be completed.
As to whether there is a guarantee that Azerbaijan also will complete this process because it must withdraw from Armenia’s territory, Grigoryan responded: "We have discussed the draft regulation for a long time, then the regulation was signed. What guarantee is it about? How do you imagine what the guarantee could be?"
Mher Grigoryan assured that they are not in a hurry, they have started the process in a calm manner, and the logic they are moving with is a working logic.
According to the Armenian deputy premier, it is not possible to point to a specific map in the aforesaid regulation because depending on which section the border delimitation is done, the specific map and the year should be indicated, while the maps of the USSR General Staff are from 1974 to 1979.
