Hakob Arshakyan met with the Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Thanh within the framework of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
The RA NA deputy Lilit Stepanyan is also in the delegation.
During the meeting Hakob Arshakyan presented the to the Vietnamese side the situation in the region, particularly reflecting on also the Crossroads of Peace project initiated by the RA Government.
On this occasion the Vietnamese side expressed its support to the process aimed at long-term peace and stability.
“Vietnam is one of the main partners of Armenia in the Asia-Pacific Ocean region. The distance between our countries cannot be an obstacle for deepening the cooperation,” the NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan said.
He underscored that the parliamentary diplomacy is an important platform for boosting political dialogue between the two countries and developing inter-state relations.
Hakob Arshakyan informed the interlocutor that the Armenia-Vietnam Friendship Group functions in the RA NA. The Armenian side expects the establishment of a similar group in the Parliament of Vietnam.
In terms of activation of contacts between the two legislative bodies the mutual visits are very important. In this context, the NA Vice President touched upon the expecting visit of the President of the National Assembly to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the near future, expressing conviction that it will serve to the development of relations between the two friendly countries.
Reference was made to the visa liberalisation and the possibility of launching direct flights between the two countries.
Armenia expressed its readiness to make efforts in effective cooperation between Vietnam and EAEU.
Hakob Arshakyan noted that Armenia attaches great importance to its participation in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and highly appreciates the status of observer received in August of the previous year.
The NA Vice President also underlined that effective cooperation of the Republic of Armenia in the framework of the international organizations with the ASEAN countries.
